The Nominating Committee of the Miss Connecticut Board of Directors announces openings on the board. We now have 11 members and can elect up to 15. Board positions are non-paying. You must commit to attending one meeting a month, usually held on the second Sunday. You also must be available to attend local pageants and other events, as well as participate on committees, which include fundraising and contestant recruitment, just to name two. Elections will take place at our October meeting. The deadline to apply for board positions is Sept. 15. Please send a letter of interest, which includes what you bring to the table, as well as a resume, to Nominating Chairwoman Ann DeMatteo, 250 Wintergreen Ave., Hamden, CT 06514 or email me at Anndem56@aol.com. |

Congratulations Brittany on an incredible documentary about the Haitian Orphanage. You could not help but have tears in your eyes watching these happy children smiling and singing seemingly oblivious to the devastation surrounding them. You are truly their angel! We wish you much success in your trip back next month. You are an incredible young woman and truly and inspiration! Great Job!!! |

I'd like to kindly remind a select few people that this guestbook is not an anonymous forum for slandering others. As long as we've ever had an interactive website, it's been standard procedure to sign your name to what you write (also known in this day and age as "owning it", or colloquially as "having a spine.") Remember, this website is the place where prospective contestants, volunteers, sponsors and even the media look to learn more about our program. Our titleholders, board members, local EDs and volunteers work selflessly year-round to uphold the image of our program, and the last thing we all need is someone actively working to tarnish that image in the public eye. Please bear this in mind before acting impulsively. If you want to be taken seriously, there are other avenues for airing concerns, and they generally require summoning the courage to identify yourself. Tom Prete is a good person. He will be a fantastic Executive Director and we are lucky to have such an experienced, capable businessperson filling this unpaid, often thankless full-time job. Congratulations to him and to all the new board members yet to be announced. |

The Miss Connecticut Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Tom Prete as the new executive director of the Miss Connecticut Scholarship Corporation. The appointment is for three years. Tom has been involved in the pageant for 30 years, starting in the 1980s, when he and his wife Donna ran the Miss New Haven County pageant. Over the years, Tom's business, the Dancer's Shop, has provided goods and services to contestants. He also knows what it's like to be a parent in the system: daughter Marla Prete Spadaccino was Miss CT 2003 and daughter Kara Prete was a contestant. We believe Tom has the business and pageant experience, as well as a love and passion for the Miss America program, to bring our state organization to a new level. Tom has lots of plans for the organization; know that his door will always be open to you, the pageant family. Tom soon will be recommending his staff to the board, with elections for those positions to be announced in the coming months. Please join us in welcoming Tom to his new voluntary post. Thank you, Ann DeMatteo Secretary, Miss CT Board of Directors |

Please join us at the beautiful New England Carousel Museum(95 Riverside Ave Rte 72 Bristol),on Thursday, Aug 12th from 630-830 and learn about Miss Connecticut, Brittany Decker's platform, "One World: Global Awareness for Global Prosperity" and her involvement with the Christian Haitian Outreach Orphanage where she visited this past spring. Brittany will unveil her new mini-documentary music video set to "We Are The World" with footage from her visit to Haiti and talk about... the challenges facing the children there today. She is planning a return trip next month and hopes to raise enough money to install an irrigation system for the 1/2 acre garden she helped build, bring badly needed supplies and purchase a new truck for them. There is a $15 suggested donation at the door, which includes admission to the museum. Refreshments will be served. We are only a few days away. Please RSVP at your earliest convenience through FaceBook or by calling Gail McCool at 860-861-8261. We would like to give the museum an estimated head count as soon as possible. |
