Miss America Promotes National Pancake Day

Promote IHOP National Pancake Day![]() Join Miss America 2009 Katie Stam in celebrating National Pancake Day, on Tuesday, February 24th between 7:00am and 10:00pm. Enjoy a free short stack of IHOP's famous buttermilk pancakes and while there, make a donation to the Children's Miracle Network (CMN). As the official spokesperson for National Pancake Day and the Goodwill Ambassador to the CMN, Katie will be at a Los Angeles IHOP, flipping pancakes and encouraging IHOP patrons to make donations that will help children with life-threatening illnesses. In 2008, IHOP raised more than $875,000 for Children's Miracle Network hospitals throughout the country. This year, they hope to raise $1 million. Be part of the celebration and help make miracles for the over 17 million children that visit CMN hospitals each year. Connecticut Field Operations Local Pageants Meeting ![]() Director of Field Operations Stan Boyes and Executive Director Luis Pabon hosted a luncheon meeting at the First Baptist Church in Norwich, CT on Saturday February 21st with the 2009 Miss Connecticut Local Pageants Executive Directors and Business Managers. The locals received the latest pageant information made available from the Miss America Organization along with tips on how to improve their productions, upcoming events on the Miss Connecticut pageant calendar and an open forum for the attendees to share their successes and strategies that have worked for them. In addition newly appointed Pageant Producer Berkley Little shared some of what is in store for the contestants at this years pageant finals at the Garde Arts Center in New London the week of June 21 - 28th. Lunch was provided by Stan and Luis and plans are to hold semi-annual meeting for the Locals around the state moving forward. |

![]() Connecticut Titleholders with Robin Roberts and Diane Sawyer Greater Waterbury / Wolcott Teens take Presidents Day trip to NYC. and the taping of the ABC's morning show. There were 49 mostly pageant family that were part of the guest audience. The girls and their parents got to meet Robin Roberts, Diane Sawyer, Sam Champion and the rest of the crew at ABC including special guests Cameron Mathison (All My Children/Dancing With The Stars) and the famous basketball hero from Massachusetts, Jason McElwain. |

She is a vocalist and her platform is volunteerism. |

FORMER CONTESTANTS FOR MISS AMERICA'S OUTSTANDING TEEN MAKE IT TO THE TOP 36 ON AMERICAN IDOLTwo former state titleholders continue on in their quest
to become the American Idol ![]() ![]() Orlando, FL-- February 12, 2009- The Miss America's Outstanding Teen Organization announced today that two of their former contestants have made it to the next round on American Idol. Arianna Afsar, 17, was Miss California's Outstanding Teen 2005 and Jasmine Murray, 17, was Miss Mississippi's Outstanding Teen 2007. Afsar originally auditioned in Phoenix, AZ and Murray auditioned in Jacksonville, FL. Afsar was the first runner-up to Miss America's Outstanding Teen 2006 and started a mentoring program called “Adopt a Grandparent.” Murray was a top 10 finalist and has received recognition for her outstanding community service with the U.S. Dream Academy. Both girls received scholarship money for their achievements. Miss America's Outstanding Teen, the “little sister” to the Miss America Organization, is a scholarship-based program offering accomplished teens the opportunity to be awarded funds for college. The program promotes scholastic achievement, creative accomplishment, healthy living and community involvement for America's teens. In the past four years, the organization has made available more than $3 million in college scholarships. "Jasmine and Arianna are two perfect examples of what this country needs as the next America Idol. They are both academic leaders, community activists, and dedicated volunteers,” said Kim Parrish, president of MAOT. “They are well-rounded teens and would set a shining example for other teens to follow. MAOT is proud of these two former contestants." 2009 Fairfield & New Haven Counties Pageant Held

| Miss Fairfield County and New Haven County - what a night! New Haven County's Outstanding Teen 09 Alyssa Taglia, Miss New Haven County 09 Ashley Abate, Miss Fairfield County 09 Taylor Hira, and Fairfield County's Outstanding Teen Mary Ragaglia Two Misses and two Outstanding Teens. The committee put on a great show. Special feature was the emcee Sonia Baghdady from Channel 8. She was a breath of fresh air, her timing and flair was great. Beside crowning 4 great contestants for this year's pageant, everyone enjoyed the "mock" crowning of Ms. Bagdaddy by our very own Miss Connecticut Ashley Glenn. Thanks also to pageant sponsor Ragtime Boutique and Natalie Testa for providing her with wardrobe for the evening. Miss Connecticut 2008 Ashley Glenn, Miss North Haven 09 Gretchen Hahn, Miss Greater Hamden 09 Candice Dodge, Miss North Haven 08 Morgan Amarone Hamden's Outstanding Teen 09 Alyssa Anderson & North Haven's Outstanding Teen Haylee Rochler The Miss Greater Hamden and North Haven Pageants were held on Saturday, January 31st at the Miller Library Auditorium in Hamden. The pageant was hosted by Miss Connecticut 2004 Nikki Palmieri and Antonio Peronace
Selected Miss Greater Hamden 2009 was Candice Dodge and Greater Hamden's Outstanding Teen was Alyssa Anderson. Crowned Miss North Haven 2009 was Gretchen Hahn and North Haven's Outstanding Teen was Haylee Rochler.
Congratulations to the Miss Greater Hamden and North Haven Pageant Committee for an outstanding production enjoyed by all.
Rose of New England's Outstanding Teen 2009 Taylor Jannett The Rose of New England's Outstanding Teen pageant was held on Sunday, February 1st at the Donald L. Oat Theater in Norwich. The pageant was hosted by Miss Rose of New England 2008 Marissa Ranalli and 2009 New London County's Outstanding Teen Nancy Riviera. Selected as Rose Of New England's Outstanding Teen for 2009 was Taylor Jennett. |
