Emily Audibert, Miss Connecticut 2012, thanked her support system of family and friends upon winning the coveted crown on the night of June 30 at the Garde Arts Center in New London.
“They really inspired me to believe in myself,” said Emily, 21, who was all smiles after her win over 23 other local titleholders. Emily became Miss Wolcott in November 2011 and won the Connecticut crown on her first try.
She performed a lyrical dance to “Listen” by Beyonce from the musical “Dreamgirls.”
“I feel like I speak to people through the way I dance, connecting with them. You have to listen to what people say,” she said.
A dancer for 18 years, Emily won a preliminary talent award and then on the night of the crowning, Emily was a double-winner in talent and lifestyle and fitness in swimsuit. As Miss Connecticut 2012, she won a $5,000 scholarship, plus a combined total of $600 for the talent and swimsuit awards; the use of a new car from Barberino Nissan of Wallingford; a host of other prizes and the right to represent Connecticut at Miss America in January 2013.
Emily is a rising senior at the University of Hartford, where she is a triple major in economics/finance, accounting and entrepreneurial studies. She plans to enter the finance and accounting field, become a certified public accountant and own her own business.
As Miss Connecticut, Emily will promote her personal platform, “Let’s Move,” the fight against childhood obesity. She said she will reach out to school systems and plans to start a video blog that would contain healthy recipes or activities to reach out to the public.
Emily said she is “ecstatic, so honored and proud” to be Miss Connecticut, because of all the work she and her support system put into achieving her goal.
